Toronto Metropolitan University’s Centre for Sexual and Gender Minority People

Health Outcome Promotion & Engagement

The HOPE Centre is a research centre dedicated to understanding and promoting the health of sexual and gender minority people.

We conduct community-engaged, interdisciplinary research regarding the health of people who identify as trans, genderqueer, non-binary, gay, bisexual, lesbian, queer, pansexual, asexual, and other sexual/gender minority people.

We have a special focus on the role of intersectional identities and experiences, and center Two-spirit peoples, Black people, people of colour, and those who are affected by or are living with HIV and other stigmatizing conditions.

Turning research into action for our communities!

Our Principles

We aim to see diversity in all of its complexities and encourage research examining the intersectional effects of structural violence, including, but not limited to; racism, sexism, classism, queer/transphobia, ableism, ageism, citizenship discrimination, and the experiences of health outcomes of sexual and gender minorities.

Our Research Objectives

Work with  researchers and community partners to ensure research priorities can help improve the health of sexual and gender minorities in our communities.

Develop innovative strategies and interventions to reduce social and health disparities and promote health and well-being.

Build capacity among students, community stakeholders, and service providers to implement inclusive, evidence-based health promotion in their work.

Contribute to new knowledge about the determinants of health and health equity among sexual and gender minorities.
